on photography

The latest edition of Photo Media magazine is now available. I'm happy to be involved in writing a book review/profile of a retrospective volume celebrating the legacy of the late Galen Rowell. Working on this piece was a wonderful experience to talk with photographers, colleagues and collaborators who admire Rowell's work. It was also refreshing have the opportunity to write for a different audience, expectations and purpose. I'm a lifelong student of photography, and I'm fortunate to have the oppportunity to write about photographers, their work and their passion for the art. This summer, I also had the opportunity to work on a project involving the renowned photographer Bruce Davidson . Among Mr. Davidson's best work focused on the civil rights movement. He also is well-known for striking and unforgettable imagery of personalities in East Harlem, New York subways, Central Park, among many other venues. Knowledge sharing

Clark College welcomed participants at the first Northwest Minority and Women Business Excellence Conference, held in Vancouver, Wash. this weekend. Keynote speakers included notable entrepreneurs Tina Kuna, founder of the successful franchise Dream Dinners , and Enrique Washington, co-founding partner of Generator Group LLC. The event was a huge success, thanks to the organizational prowess of Shareefah Abdullah, founder and president of Hot Ovations Communications. Among the workshop presenters who shared industry know-how included Michele Larsen, publisher of the NW Women's Journal; Greg Wolley, City of Portland Bureau of Purchases ; Izad Khormaee, e1 Solutions ; Joseph Pugh, TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. Enrique Washington, on the podium, delivered one of the keynote speeches. Also onstage were Shareefah Abdullah and Tina Kuna, founder of Dream Dinners.
