Portland Celebrates President Barack Obama's Inauguration

To celebrate Barack Obama's inauguration as the 44th President of the United States, Melvin Broadous , a real estate broker who is a past president of the Metropolitan Association of Realtors, is among local business and community leaders who are organizing a community celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the Rose Garden Arena. The celebration starts at 5p.m., Tuesday, January 20, at the Rose Garden Arena’s West Lexus Lounge, One Center Court., Portland. Admission is $10, or bring four non-perishable food items. Cash contributions will benefit community housing and education programs of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers . Canned foods collected at the event will be donated to Calvary Christian Church and the Oregon Food Bank. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration. Gale Castillo Selected for Prestigious Executive Leadership Program

Congratulations to Gale Castillo , President of the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber (Hispanic Chamber), who has been selected as one of 22 Latinas nationwide to participate in the 2009 National Leadership Institute (NHLI), Executive Leadership Program. Ms. Castillo’s selection was based on the commitment she has demonstrated to the Hispanic community and the leadership and desire she displayed to move the Hispanic community forward. "Counter Culture" Book Launch

Congratulations to brother Polo ( Ronault S. Catalani ) on the publication of his book "Counter Culture," a collection of essays depicting the experiences of immigrants in our Portland. Polo is a long-time columnist for "The Asian Reporter" and has been a well-known advocate for immigrant and refugee communities. The book launch party, held at the Center of Intercultural Organizing's office in NE Killingsworth, drew a large crowd of Asian, African, Arab, Persian, Mexican, and Anglo community elders, activists, and business leaders.
