What an amazing evening of inspiring stories and performances! The Colored Pencils Arts Collective hosted a fund-raiser for the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon, bringing together community leaders committed to advancing APANO's stellar advocacy work
APANO has served as the collective political voice of the Asian Pacific Islander community for a number of years. At the 2009 APANO Convention in Mt. Angel, I had the wonderful opportunity to hear from Colored Pencils co-founder Nim Xuto about her emerging plans to start the arts and culture collective. Fast-forward to 2012, and Colored Pencils has consistently delivered standing-room only CP Arts and Culture Nights throughout Portland.
It was a wonderful experience seeing folks with a shared vision celebrating together at the Colored Pencils/APANO event. I currently serve on the Colored Pencils board, and has previously served on the APANO board. I have nothing but ultimate respect to amazing community leaders who give tirelessly of their time, their talents and their voice to causes that elevate our API communities as a whole. Special thanks to Ronault "Polo" Catalani, June Schumann, Thach Nuguyen, Joseph Santos-Lyons, Thomas Ngo, Simeon Mamaril, and other APANO leaders for their continued advocacy.
