The Muslim Educational Trust (MET) is partnering with the
Vietnamese Community of Oregon and the IRS to offer free tax assistance workshops
in several languages: English, Chinese,
Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Telugu.
Through the IRS program, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), MET offers free tax preparation services to low-to-moderate
income individuals and families. IRS-certified volunteers provide
free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified
individuals in local communities. They can inform taxpayers about special tax
credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax
Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.
Starting Wednesday, January 21, MET will offer the workshops
two days a week until April 15 at the MET Community and Educational Center, 9800
SW Nimbus Avenue, in Beaverton. Free tax assistance will be available from 11am
to 3pm every Wednesday and Thursday.
For more information about the program and what you need to
bring, visit the IRS VITA website. For questions, comments, or concerns, contact site
coordinator Tasneem Danka or MET's Rania Ayoub.
