Mayor Wilmot Collins of Helena, Montana |
Afrik Impact is the annual celebration for the African diaspora in Colorado, honoring accomplishments and support from local community leaders, from Members of Congress to Fortune 200 CEOs.
Mayor Collins will deliver the keynote at the Afrik Impact Gala, to be held from 6 to 10pm at the Denver Botanic Gardens, 1007 York St., Denver, CO 80206,
Since ALG's inception in 2006, the organization has encouraged political, business and civic participation by bringing together the African diaspora, developing local leaders, and advocating on issues that matter.
"The focus of this year’s event is 'Education and Leadership,' and we are looking to highlight the pivotal role that education plays in creating the present and future leaders in the broader African diaspora," says ALG founder Papa Dia.

Honorable Wilmot Collins, a Liberian refugee, made history by becoming the first mayor in Montana. He arrived in Helena as a refugee in 1994, and signed up for the National Guard shortly after settling in the U.S. Before running for office, he worked for many years as a social worker for the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
"Our focus on education has been rooted in developing the leaders of tomorrow, here and abroad. We also highlight ALG’s current initiatives, the contributions that Africans have made in Colorado, and how we will continue driving our vision forward," says Papa.
