In my professional home at Oregon Health & Science University, I have the privilege of telling the story of how OHSU is creating meaningful opportunities for diverse students to explore careers in health and sciences.
OHSU's Center for Diversity and Inclusion hosts college and high school students every summer for research lab and clinical shadowing experience. This year, 22 students took part in the summer Equity and the Ted R. Lilley Cancer Continuing Umbrella of Research Education (CURE) Program.
The intensive eight-week program pairs up each intern with a research and/or clinical mentor. At the conclusion of the internship, interns presented a poster session summarizing their research findings. I wrote a blog post for OHSU's 96,000 Square Miles blog about the internship programs.
CDI starts recruitment for the 2014 cohort of interns later this year. Read more about this year’s cohort of Equity research interns and CURE interns.
