Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Denver March Powwow. This weekend-long gathering of Native American and First Nations peoples is among the largest on the continent, drawing more than 1,200 dancers from hundreds of tribes across the United States and Canada.
Being in the presence of the grandeur and pride of rich indigenous cultures is always a humbling experience. The dances are ceremonies that represent more than visual artistry: they tell the sacred stories of how Native communities endured the onslaught of colonization and loss of their ancestral lands. Grateful to witness an uplifting and affirming occasion to preserve indigenous cultures and traditions.
