MediaRites Hosts Live-Stream of "Harvest"

In recognition of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, join MediaRites for the digital tour of "A Bridge To Civil Rights: The –Ism Project" tour at 6pm on Saturday, May 23 with Vanport Mosaic. "Harvest" by Dmae Roberts, performed by Jane Vogel Mantiri, tells the story of four generations of an Asian American family that has been has been affected by Oregon's exclusion laws. The piece has been rewritten to address the return of exclusion and yellow peril fear amid COVID-19 pandemic fears.

The performance will be followed by a panel featuring Linda Tamura, professor emerita of Willamette University and author of “The Hood River Issei” and Jane Vogel Mantiri of Advance Gender Equity in the Arts. Dmae Roberts, Executive Producer of MediaRites, will lead a conversation with them and some AAPI leaders around the state.

Media Rites' "The –Ism Project" consists of monologues that explore the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, orientation and national origin followed by community dialogue to foster empathy, inclusion and building ally-ship. The show garnered critical praise from Oregon ArtsWatch and comments from audiences and panelists ranging from "I didn’t know our town’s history” to very personal stories about how people have dealt with "–isms" in their own community.
